Sports hall lighting
Sports hall lighting is planned to EN 12193 according to the level of competition (class I–III): training halls need lower, and official competitions higher, illuminance and uniformity. Impact-resistant (IK) luminaires against ball strikes, a layout that prevents glare and drivers that do not flicker on camera are chosen.

From our project: Sports Complex Lighting Project
What to look out for
- Uniform light
- High uniformity so that the ball and the opponent are clearly visible everywhere.
- Glare control
- Athletes often look upwards; luminaire positions and optics are chosen accordingly.
- Impact resistance
- IK08 or higher housings or protective grilles for ball sports.
- Flicker-free light
- Low-flicker drivers for video recording and broadcasting.

Frequently asked questions
Which standard is sports hall lighting designed to?
EN 12193; whether the hall is used for training or official competition (class I–III) determines the illuminance and uniformity targets.
Why does the IK rating matter in a sports hall?
To withstand ball strikes, the luminaire must have impact resistance (IK08 or higher) or be fitted with a protective grille.
Which colour temperature suits a fitness centre?
4000K–5000K is usually preferred for an energetic atmosphere.
