Acoustic Lighting
Acoustic luminaires combine LED lighting with sound-absorbing felt panels in a single body. In hard-surfaced, reverberant spaces such as open-plan offices, meeting rooms, restaurants, schools and shops they provide light while reducing echo. The 9 mm recycled PET felt has an NRC of 0.70 and a B-s1,d0 fire rating; linear, round, oval and panel forms are available in 11 felt colours.

- What Is Acoustic Lighting? Luminaires That Reduce Echo
Acoustic lighting combines an LED luminaire with a sound-absorbing felt surface to control both light and echo. Sound absorption is expressed by the NRC value (0–1; 0.70 means that on average 70 per cent of the sound is absorbed). NRC, the fire class of the felt, the total felt area, illuminance (500 lx at the office desk) and glare (UGR < 19) are assessed together.
- Lux Levels in Office Lighting: A Guide Based on EN 12464-1
According to EN 12464-1, an average of 500 lux, a glare limit of UGR ≤ 19, uniformity of 0.60 and at least CRI 80 are targeted at office desks used for writing, reading and screen work. 500 lux is also enough in meeting rooms and 100 lux in corridors. Low-glare luminaires and a 4000K colour temperature are common choices in offices with screens.
- DALI, KNX and 1-10V: Lighting Control Systems
1-10V is the lowest-cost analogue method, dimming all luminaires on a line together. DALI (IEC 62386) is a digital protocol that can address 64 luminaires on a line individually and receive status information. KNX is a building automation standard that manages lighting together with heating, blinds and security systems. 1-10V suits small, budget-focused jobs, DALI offices, hotels and shops, and in integrated smart buildings KNX as the upper layer is combined with DALI as the lower layer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does an acoustic luminaire do?
It provides both light and sound absorption: the felt surface reduces reflections of speech and noise and shortens the reverberation time, reducing the need for separate acoustic panels.
What does NRC 0.70 mean?
On average 70 per cent of the sound hitting the felt is absorbed. The value ranges from 0 to 1; the higher it is, the more sound is absorbed.
Where are acoustic luminaires used?
In open-plan offices, meeting rooms, call centres, restaurants and cafés, schools, hospitals and shops — spaces with glass, concrete and hard floors that cause echo.
