Preserving the spirit and architectural details of historic buildings in the night silhouette is one of the most delicate areas of lighting design. In this historic façade lighting project we highlighted the monumental gates, stone arches and domes without harming their original identity, using high-IP outdoor luminaires in warm amber and yellow tones. Light directed upwards from the base of the columns at the right angles, combined with non-invasive mounting, creates a dignified night-time atmosphere.

  • Solutions used: High-efficiency narrow-beam in-ground uplights, wall-washer systems and focused LED floodlights.
  • Project details: Warm colour temperature light sources were chosen to show the centuries-old stonework at its best. Narrow-beam luminaires balance light and shadow on the arches and monumental columns. Mounting and cabling were designed with minimal intervention to protect the physical integrity of the historic fabric.
