Rope Lighting

Rope lighting is a 48 V system in which luminaires are clipped onto a flexible rope that hangs from the ceiling or is stretched from wall to wall. The rope both carries the luminaires and supplies power, so no separate cable, track profile or ceiling box per luminaire is needed. In the Corda series, dome, cone, opal globe, disc, spotlight, linear and tube luminaires can be slid along the rope and fixed wherever needed. The terracotta red rope and luminaires draw a decorative line in restaurants, cafés, hotel lobbies, shops and high-ceilinged homes.

  • What Is Rope Lighting? System, Components and Installation

Rope lighting is a lighting system in which luminaires are clipped onto a flexible rope carrying 48 V DC conductors. The rope both carries the luminaires and supplies power; it can hang from the ceiling or be stretched from ceiling to wall or wall to wall. The total power of luminaires on one 150 W driver must not exceed 150 W, and as the system is IP20 it is used in dry indoor spaces.

  • The Importance of Colour Temperature in Lighting Design

Colour temperature (Kelvin) determines the atmosphere of a space, the appearance of materials and the alertness of its users: warm tones (2700K–3000K) enrich wood and stone and add intimacy, while neutral and cool tones (4000K–5000K) provide clarity and focus. A difference of more than 500K within the same field of view is not recommended.

  • Hotel Lighting: Lighting Design for Lobbies, Rooms, Corridors and Restaurants

Hotel lighting shapes the guest's first impression and comfort. Warm white of 2700K–3000K and CRI 90 in lobbies and rooms, about 300 lx at reception, 100 lx in corridors with light dimmed at night, layered (general, reading, concealed) lighting in rooms and scene control via DALI are recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does rope lighting work?

48 V DC conductors run inside the flexible rope. The rope is fed from a ceiling junction box or driver box and fixed to the wall with a tensioner; luminaires clip onto the rope and slide to any point along it.

How many luminaires can one driver supply?

The system uses a 150 W, 48 V DC driver. The total power of the luminaires on the rope must not exceed the driver rating; for example, up to 10 luminaires of 15 W can be connected to one driver. Longer runs get a second driver.

Where is rope lighting suitable?

It suits interiors where luminaires are to be strung along a free line: restaurant and café tables, hotel lobbies, atriums, shop windows and high-ceilinged living rooms. As the system is IP20, it is for dry indoor spaces only.
